Weekly Round up: Nov. 2- Nov 8, 2015

Closer and closer to winter, first week of November flew by.

We were blessed with a wonderful weather the first half of the week, we saw some snowflakes (which melted before reaching the ground, so they hardly count), the night temperatures are below zero and less and less leaves on the trees.

What were we up to this week:

  • There was a lot of running around, again! School at home went as planned. The most important even being us finally getting the water right for our little tabletop aquaponic system and two new friends moved in- red and blue guppy- children immediately named them Blueboy and Emily (Emily is a boy, but C. insisted on the name). We are completely new to keeping fishies, let alone grow stuff on top of the tank (we did plant basil, we’ll see if it grows), so it’s quite an adventure.

  • Outside of home: There was a lot of walking this week- my car had to be fixed and me and children walked back home 3 miles each day for a couple of days. Nice exercise and the weather cooperated. We had a great time. Usual activities went well, aside from the fact that C. had to miss ballet. D. had a karate tournament – he performed his forms very well, didn’t get the medal on account to higher rank kids being in his division, but he was ok with his performance and looked absolutely wonderful. Less luck with sparring, but hopefully lessons were learned.
  • The highlight of the week though was our family trip to see The Lion King musical. It is third time for me and my husband, second time for D. and the first for C. As always a pure delight, beautiful performance! People in Denver Metro Area- it runs through the end of November, tickets are pricey, yes, but so worth it.
  • To be honest, in the midst of our past few crazy weeks I finally hit that “almost burned out” bar. I felt that there was a strain in most things we did, so I used the weekend to slow down, waaay down and re-acess our priorities for the weeks to follow. Hopefully we can make it to December sane.

I am still drawing a lot, well, a lot for me. I found that creating a sort of visual diary helps a lot with reaxation after a hard day and serves as an excellent memory keeper on the days when I don’t have time to write my thoughts down.

What are we reading:

  • D. read “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH” by Robert C. O’Brian and loved it

  • C. especially enjoyed Toot and Puddle books by Holly Hobbie  which she read aloud to us.

  • In Russian: Д. читал Джанни Родари “Римские Фантазии”, К. читает “Русалочка” Г.Х. Андерсена
  • Mama reads- I am just about to finish “The School of Essential Ingredients” by Erica Bauermeister, it was on my “want to read” list forever and so far I am enjoying it a lot. All the food in this book makes me drool uncontrollably too 😀

On to the next week, hope it is lovely for everyone!
