Today is Appreciate a Dragon Day! Which for us is about to turn into an Appreciate a Dragon Weekend. First, please take a look at our Books about  Dragons Pile:

FAVORITE BOOKS ABOUT DRAGONS

1) Where’s the Dragon by Jason and Richard Hook. This is one of the most beloved books by my little C., it’s a funny story about a boy and his grandpa who go looking for dragons. A child looks for dragons in a landscape, and there are so many of these!

2) Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter Yarrow is the song that’s a favorite with C. since her babyhood (oh, the times I sang it to her). I recommend book with the CD, it’s fun to listen to the song whie looking at pictures. There is also a pop-up book.

3) The Dragons are Singing Tonight by Jack Prelutsky. Beautifully illustrated by Peter Sis, this book offers a variety of poems about dragons, funny and sad. Absolutely delightful collection.

4) A lovely trio for young readers from Ruth Stiles Ganett is another huge favorite in the Sunflowerous house. Each book is full of adventure with sweet, soft illustrations. The books are  My Father’s Dragon,

Elmer and the Dragon,

5)D. has been a huge, HUGE fan of Cressida Cowell’s How to Train Your Dragon series for a couple of years now, at least. He enjoyed every single book in the series and keeps talking about different kinds of dragons until my head starts spinning.

As I type this, D. reminds me of the companion to the series- The Complete Book of Dragons:A Guide to Dragon Species, this book contains all the dragons, in full colored illustrations. This is the book that D. carries around, sets on his nightstand and shows to everyone every chance he gets.

6) Kenny & the Dragon by Tony diTerlizzi is another favorite, a fun tale of friendship.
