Today is Appreciate a Dragon Day! Which for us is about to turn into an Appreciate a Dragon Weekend. First, please take a look at our Books about Dragons Pile:
1) Where’s the Dragon by Jason and Richard Hook. This is one of the most beloved books by my little C., it’s a funny story about a boy and his grandpa who go looking for dragons. A child looks for dragons in a landscape, and there are so many of these!
2) Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter Yarrow is the song that’s a favorite with C. since her babyhood (oh, the times I sang it to her). I recommend book with the CD, it’s fun to listen to the song whie looking at pictures. There is also a pop-up book.
3) The Dragons are Singing Tonight by Jack Prelutsky. Beautifully illustrated by Peter Sis, this book offers a variety of poems about dragons, funny and sad. Absolutely delightful collection.
4) A lovely trio for young readers from Ruth Stiles Ganett is another huge favorite in the Sunflowerous house. Each book is full of adventure with sweet, soft illustrations. The books are My Father’s Dragon,
and finally The Dragons of Blueland
5)D. has been a huge, HUGE fan of Cressida Cowell’s How to Train Your Dragon series for a couple of years now, at least. He enjoyed every single book in the series and keeps talking about different kinds of dragons until my head starts spinning.
As I type this, D. reminds me of the companion to the series- The Complete Book of Dragons:A Guide to Dragon Species, this book contains all the dragons, in full colored illustrations. This is the book that D. carries around, sets on his nightstand and shows to everyone every chance he gets.
6) Kenny & the Dragon by Tony diTerlizzi is another favorite, a fun tale of friendship.
7) Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin is another lovely tale of courage and friendship.
8) Dragonology series are wonderful, interactive books that pull the reader right in. FOr those that want to learn all about dragons!
9) Graeme Base’s The Discovery of Dragons has absolutely amazing illustrations and enchanting text. It is more for upper elementary kids for sure.
10) D. recently started Wings of Fire series by Tui T Sutherland and has been enjoying it very much indeed.
11) Don’t forget about The Hobbit of course!
In our To Be Read pile
Edith Nesbit’s Book of Dragons
Dragons at the Crumbling Castle by Terry Pratchett (UK edition is available through book depository right now, US edition comes out in February)
Kenneth Grahame’s The Reluctant Dragon is waiting to be presented to kids tomorrow:)
Patricia Wrede’s The Enchanted Forest Chronicles comes out highly recommended, so looking forward to this one as well
Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke is something to look forward to as well
Mama reads:
I enjoyed The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, although it’s not something I would binge read. The last two books Brisingr and Inheritance are my favorites.
Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett is hilarious (as is pretty much every Discworld book)
In RUSSIAN:
Нианское чудовище с иллюстрациями Игоря Олейникова. Отличная сказка про Китайский Новый Год
Большая книга сказок о драконах- замечательный сборник
This is by no means a full list and hopefully we will add to this list soon!
